Video shows how new road will improve multi-modal commuting and safety - The City of Commerce City has produced a video highlighting the widening of Tower Road, a project that is currently in design and scheduled to begin construction later this year. The one-and-a-half-minute video informs those who work, live and commute in Commerce City how the road is going to improve commuting and safety for vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians.
Tower Road is a main artery that needs to accommodate residents and commuters as the area becomes more populated. The city must ensure that drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are able to travel safely and efficiently to their destinations.
Commerce City is widening Tower Road from two to four lanes between 80th and 104th avenues. The project will increase vehicle capacity, improve multi-modal safety, provide a higher level of service, eliminate roadway flooding and improve water quality. There will be dedicated bicycle lanes on both sides of the road, a 6-foot wide sidewalk and a 10-foot wide multi-purpose path. Improved street lighting and turn lanes will be added.
Traffic signals will be installed at 81st, 88th and 96th avenues and the median will be raised and landscaped. The overhead electrical lines will be moved underground. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2016 or early 2017.
