Commerce City residents with extra leaves and green yard waste can drop off acceptable items for free at the city’s Leaf and Green Yard Waste Event Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Civic Center, located at 7887 E. 60th Avenue.
This is the second event hosted by the city in response to resident feedback during the city’s transition to fully automated collection of trash and recycling. The event allows residents to easily dispose of yard waste such as tree limbs, leaves and lawn clippings that is typically generated in the fall months. October’s first free drop-off generated nine tons of yard waste. Next year, the city expects to host similar events to accommodate seasonal yard waste.
The event is free with proof of residency for Commerce City residents; no business or private contractors are allowed. See the list below for specific items that will and will not be accepted:
ACCEPTABLE: • Grass clippings • Tree limbs and shrub trimmings *Cut no more than 4 ft. in length. • Leaves • Plant debris • Weeds • Flowers • Sawdust • Garden Materials
NOT ACCEPTABLE:• Electronics• Plastic• Edging/fencing• Sod• Animal droppings• Construction debris• Plywood, lumber, dirt, rock, brick or pavers• Hazardous materials• Flower Pots• Cactus/Palm Branches
All items are subject to individual review. If you have any doubt whether the item you wish to drop-off qualifies contact Commerce City Public Works before the event at 303-289-8150. The site will be under surveillance after the event, so no dumping is allowed.
