CCPD seeking Colorado residents for non-traditional law enforcement career opportunity

Applications Due January 17, 2016 - COMMERCE CITY, COLO. (Dec. 29, 2015) – Integrity. Compassion. Teamwork. Critical thinking skills. A desire to serve others. These are a few of the character traits the Commerce City Police Department is seeking from Colorado residents who are interested in a non-traditional opportunity to jump start their law enforcement career.

Commerce City will sponsor up to five successful applicants to attend the July 2016 Adams County Sheriff’s Office Police Academy. During the 20-week training, recruits will receive an hourly pay rate of $23. The city also will pay for tuition and equipment costs associated with the police academy.

This is the third recruitment of its kind offered by Commerce City, which helps ensure department is more reflective of the community where employees work and live. The city has received 342 applications to date and hired six officers and one community service officer.

Officer Justin Anderson was one of the first non-certified recruits to graduate on Dec. 6, 2015, and become a police officer. “When I was going through the academy, I learned so much about myself and gained an immense amount of respect for this profession,” said Anderson. “I learned that I became an officer because I love to help people and it is something I was born to do.”

Throughout the month of January, Colorado residents are encouraged to submit an employment application and personal history statement online at c3gov.com/recruit. by Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016.
Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged.

Eligible individuals must:
• Be at least 21 years of age;
• Have a high school diploma or GED;
• Be able to perform all physical demands of the job;
• Successfully complete all testing components;
• Be a United States citizen or possess proper I-9 documentation;
• Be able to communicate effectively in written and spoken English;
• Commit to three years of service by signing an agreement with the city;
• Wait at least 12 months from the last application submission with the Commerce City Police Department.

Qualified recruits must successfully complete the academy; pass state certification and the department’s field training program to join the department as an officer. Commerce City offers competitive salaries and benefits. For example, police officers that are deemed proficient in all aspects of the job currently earn $25.60 - $35.68 per hour.
