Spring cleaning opportunities coming soon: landfill day, chemical roundup, yard waste drop off

As the weather continues to warm and spring cleaning is top of mind for many residents, the City of Commerce City wants you to know about three great upcoming opportunities to dispose of waste you may not be able to put in your regular garbage. These events are open only to residents and not available to businesses, contractors or commercial entities.

Free Landfill Day (Republic Services Tower Landfill, 8480 Tower Rd.)
Saturday, April 23
7 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Commerce City and Henderson residents are invited to the first of two 2016 landfill days on Saturday, April 23. Residents are allowed one free load at the Republic Services Tower Landfill with proof of residency. Hazardous waste materials (tires, car batteries, motor oil, etc.) are not accepted, and appliances with refrigerants must have certification of CFC removal. Click Here or call 303-371-5115 for more information.

Household Chemical Roundup (Water World, 8801 Pecos St., Federal Heights)
Saturday, May 7
9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

The Tri-County Health Department hosts two Household Chemical Roundups in Adams County each year. For a flat cost of $25 per vehicle with proof of residency, Commerce City residents can dispose of hazardous waste that is not accepted in regular garbage. This includes: oil-based paints and stains, automotive products (motor oil, antifreeze, car batteries, etc.), household cleaners, fertilizers and pesticides, tires (NOT including tractor/heavy equipment tires), propane tanks and much more. Items not accepted at the event include medical waste, explosive or radioactive materials, waste containing asbestos, compressed gasses other than propane and smoke detectors. For more information, visit www.tchd.org or call 720-200-1592.

Green Yard Waste Drop Off Event (Commerce City Civic Center, 7887 E. 60th Ave.)
Saturday, May 14
8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Green yard waste from residential lawns can be dropped off at the Civic Center during this event, which will also be held once in the fall. Acceptable organic materials include leaves, grass clippings, tree limbs (cut to no more than 4 feet in length), weeds, flowers, sawdust and other plant debris. Items NOT accepted include lumber/plywood, sod, fencing, rock, bricks, animal droppings, plastic, construction debris and any hazardous materials. All items are subject to individual review. Contact our Public Works Department at 303-289-8150 with questions about eligibility of other specific items. From Quebec Parkway, please enter from the north using Prairie Parkway and exit using E. 60th Avenue.
