Road closure updates for: I-270, Peoria Street, E. 112th AvenueA number road closures are impacting Commerce City commuters. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and be familiar with alternate routes to avoid traffic difficulties from the following projects:
I-270 (from I-76 to Vasquez Blvd.)From 10 p.m. Friday, July 15 to approximately 6 a.m. Saturday, July 16, Interstate 270 will be closed between Vasquez Boulevard and Interstate 76 while crews pour the concrete deck of the new Skyway Bridge along the RTD North Metro Rail Line. Eastbound lanes are scheduled to close at 10 p.m., with westbound lanes following suit at 11 p.m. The detour route includes diverting eastbound traffic onto I-76, E. 74th Avenue and Vasquez Boulevard to rejoin I-270, while westbound traffic will use the same route in reverse. (This closure was originally scheduled for July 8 and 9.)
Peoria Street (from E. 112th Ave. to E. 105th Way)This stretch of Peoria Street/Peoria Parkway has been closed since June 21 due to significant damage to the bridge over the Burlington Ditch. Repairs to the bridge have been delayed by the process of bidding the project and obtaining the necessary permits before work can begin. The suggested detour connecting E. 104th and E. 112th avenues involves using Havana Street and E. 106th Avenue to the west of the closure. While a firm schedule cannot be determined at this point, the bridge will likely remain closed into August.
E. 112th Avenue (from Potomac St. to Chambers Rd.)This unpaved stretch of E. 112th Avenue has been closed for approximately two months due to water running across the roadway from nearby Second Creek. The closure will remain in effect indefinitely until the water recedes and the road can be re-graded. To prevent drivers from making unsafe maneuvers to circumvent the closure, concrete barricades will soon be installed to block the roadway. E. 104th Avenue and E. 120th Avenue are the nearest east-west alternate routes.
Schedules and duration of all projected closures are subject to change. Check back at c3gov.com or the city’s social media channels for the latest information and updates on closures around the city. Thank you for your patience.
