COMMERCE CITY, COLO. (September 23, 2016) – Commerce City celebrated the grand opening and dedication of Villages East Park on September 22. The neighborhood park marks the final park completed in the voter-approved, $137 million capital improvement program, which completes five projects by Jan. 1, 2019.
Located at 11698 Chambers Rd., adjacent to a baseball field, and located in the Villages East at Buffalo Run neighborhood, Villages East Park is a great asset to local residents and the surrounding neighborhoods. The 9-acre park features:
• Multi-use hard court • Baseball field and one graded playfield• Picnic areas with shelters • Playground• Walking/Jogging trail• Sustainable landscaping • Low-level lighting for safety• Restroom • ADA accessible
“The grand opening celebrates not only the completion of the long-planned Villages East neighborhood park, but another project completed in the voter-approved capital improvement program,” said Mayor Sean Ford. “This park will serve residents and helps achieve our vision of building a Quality Community for a Lifetime.”
The $2.2 million project was constructed in seven months by general contractor GoodLand Construction. Designed by DHM Design, the community voted on a Rocky Mountain-themed playground.
The neighborhood park is one of five projects funded by a 1-percent sales and use tax increase approved by voters in 2013 to build, operate and maintain five projects in five years. Every project in the program is currently underway to meet the Jan. 1, 2019 deadline. The projects include:
• Paradice Island outdoor pool at Pioneer Park (Completed July 2015)• Three new neighborhood parks - Fronterra (Completed August 2015)- Turnberry (Completed August 2016)- Villages East Park (Completed September 2016)• Widening of Tower Road from E. 80th to E. 103rd avenues • New recreation center near E. 112th Avenue and Highway 2 • Expansion of the existing recreation center
