CDOT, Adams County projects to affect Commerce City roads

The following road construction projects are being managed by governmental organizations other than the City of Commerce City, but they will affect driving conditions within the city in the weeks and months to come:

INTERSTATE 76 AND HIGHWAY 85 INTERCHANGE
Overview: This Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) project improves safety and traffic flow of the westbound I-76 curve where the interstate joins southbound US 85. An additional travel lane from southbound US 85 to E. 96th Avenue will be built and portions of I-76 will receive new concrete pavement.

Schedule and Impacts: Construction is underway and will continue until late 2017 or early 2018. Motorists should expect long-term lane closures and reduced speed limits in both directions. In late October, crews will temporarily close eastbound I-76 north of E. 96th Avenue to all traffic overnight for one or two nights. Closure dates and detours will be posted on the project website.

Schedule and Impacts: Work is expected to begin Monday, Oct. 17 and last until May 2017. This project involves deep excavations requiring long-term, full closures of the following roads:
- E. 77th Avenue (between Brighton Road and Ladore Street)
- Kenwood Street (between E. 77th and E. 76th avenues)
- E. 76th Avenue (between Kenwood Street and Kearney Street)

These road closures will start with E. 77th Avenue and continue as the project progresses. Detour routes will be established.

SACWSD SEWER PROJECT, E. 56TH AVENUE AND FAIRFAX STREET
Overview: The South Adams County Water & Sanitation District (SACWSD) is working to replace the sanitary sewer and other services along E. 56th Avenue between Eudora Street and Holly Street. This area is located just east of I-270 in the 56th Avenue Industrial Park.

Schedule and Impacts: This work requires closing the intersection of E. 56th Avenue and Fairfax Street. The closure is scheduled to start on Wednesday, Oct. 19 and continue until Wednesday, Nov. 9. The roads will remain open, but there will be no access from E. 56th Avenue north to Fairfax Street or vice versa. Access to businesses on Fairfax Street will be maintained at all times via E. 58th Avenue.
