Tower Road Closure Continues Through April

Tower Road will remain closed in both directions between E. 88th and E. 96th avenues through April 2017 to continue road construction activities.

During the closure, drivers should use E. 88th Avenue, Buckley Road and E. 96th Avenue to safely navigate the construction zone. A temporary signal remains at the intersection of E. 96th Avenue and Buckley Road to direct traffic. Drivers should plan ahead and expect delays during peak traffic hours.

Although the current detour will continue through the end of April, construction activities will continue in the area. One lane will open in each direction to allow for further work. Crews plan to keep the current detour open to help with traffic flow through the construction zone. This gives drivers an option of driving on Tower Road from E. 88th to E. 96th avenues or taking the detour. Future detours and closures in the Tower Road project area are likely until the project completes in December 2017.

While the detour was optimistically anticipated to be in place into early 2017, we expect it to remain through spring. Construction schedules vary and the city does its best to work with contractors for accurate times, but timing may change. Thank you for your patience during this construction.

This is the first of three major construction phases for the Tower Road widening project. Elements include widening Tower Road to two lanes in each direction between E. 80th and E. 103rd avenues, providing a dedicated bicycle lane on the west side of the roadway, improving drainage and moving overhead utilities underground.

The Tower Road widening project is one of five projects in the city’s voter-approved capital improvement program, which utilizes a 1-percent sales and use tax to deliver five new parks, recreation and road projects in five years.
