UPDATE: HWY 2 CLOSURE CANCELED DUE TO PENDING WEATHER
Highway 2 will be closed in both directions between Quebec Street and 88th Avenue from 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. for four nights starting Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, to install piping underneath Highway 2 for the widening project.
This nighttime closure will ensure safety for drivers by taking advantage of non-peak hours for four nights instead of a one-lane closure for two weeks during peak hours. This work is weather dependent and may change.
Southbound drivers on Highway 2 should follow the detour by turning right onto 88th Avenue and then left onto Rosemary Street to avoid the construction zone. Northbound drivers on Highway 2 should follow the detour by turning left onto Rosemary St. and then right onto 88th Avenue to avoid the construction zone. Signage will be placed to direct traffic, but drivers should plan ahead and expect delays.
Future detours and closures along Highway 2 are likely until the project completes in 2018. The Highway 2 widening project includes expansion of Highway 2 from two to four lanes between E. 72nd Ave. and I-76 to provide a higher level of service, improve safety, increase vehicle capacity, and accommodate pedestrians, bicyclists and vehicles.
