COMMERCE CITY, COLO. (Dec. 12, 2023) – Commerce City’s new mayor and five council members took the oath of office during an organization meeting of the City Council Monday evening at the Commerce City Civic Center. Per the Commerce City Charter, Monday’s milestone came two weeks after the official certification of the 2023 election results by the Adams County Clerk and Recorder’s Office. Commerce City voters elected a new mayor, re-elected three incumbent City Council members, and chose two new councilmembers in the 2023 election.

Steve Douglas, a two-term councilmember from 2011 to 2019, was sworn-in as the city’s 14th mayor. Incumbents Renée M. Chacon (Ward III – special two-year term), Susan Noble (Ward IV), and Craig Kim (at-large) took the oath again and will remain in their respective roles. Rocky Teter, who previously served on City Council from 1995 to 2003, was sworn back in as the representative for Ward II, while Charles Dukes began his first term in the other at-large seat. Mayor Douglas then selected Councilmember Noble to serve as the city’s mayor pro tem.

Council members also took time during Monday’s proceeding to recognize and thank outgoing Mayor Benjamin Huseman and Councilmembers Jennifer Allen-Thomas (Ward II) and Craig Hurst (at-large) for their contributions on the City Council.
