Building Code
The city adopted the Family of International Codes®. The purpose of these codes is to establish minimum requirements to safeguard the public health, safety, and general welfare from hazards attributed to the built environment.
Municipal Code
The municipal code contains all the laws (ordinances) that govern Commerce City, from neighborhood upkeep to animal licensing and business regulations. Ordinances are adopted by City Council.

Land Development Code
The land development code sets guidelines for items such as zoning, land use, signage, landscaping and fencing. It is separate from the city’s comprehensive plan, which guides development types and locations.
Traffic Code
The Commerce City Traffic Code document contains information about traffic regulation, equipment, signs, parking and other information. This document is out of date. The Traffic Code has been amended, as further shown in Chapter 11, Article 1, Division 2 of the Commerce City Revised Municipal Code.

The engineering division safeguards the health, property, and public welfare of Commerce City by enforcing construction standards and specifications.
