Veterans Day Event on Friday, Nov. 10 

On Nov. 11, the nation takes time to recognize all who have served in the United States military with the observance of Veterans Day. This year, the Commerce City Veterans Commission is hosting a variety of events on Friday, Nov. 10 at various locations throughout the city. All community members are welcome to receive recognition or help recognize those who have served the country proudly.

Flag Raising

  • 7:30 a.m. – Commerce City Civic Center, 7887 E. 60th Ave.
  • 9 a.m. – Veterans Memorial Park, 6015 Forest Dr.

Fellowship at Eagle Pointe Recreation Center, 6060 Parkway Dr.

  • 9 a.m. – Coffee, donuts, and oil painting lessons
  • 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. – Light lunch and oil painting lessons

Celebration at Bison Ridge Recreation Center, 13905 E. 112th Ave.

  • 4 – 6 p.m. – Pizza, drinks, and crafts

Free recreation memberships for active military and disabled veterans

Free recreation memberships are available to honorably discharged veterans with a disability of at least 50% (individual membership only) and active-duty military service members and their immediate families (spouses, minor children, and legal wards). Memberships include admission to the Bison Ridge and Eagle Pointe recreation centers and Paradice Island Pool.

To obtain the free annual membership, service members must meet these qualifications:

• Be a current resident of Commerce City and show proof of residency

• Verify current or former service in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard, Merchant Marines, or Reserves

• Active duty members must provide a government-issued active military badge

• Honorably discharged veterans must provide a letter from Veteran Affairs, dated no more than 60 days before obtaining membership, stating the percentage of disability (minimum 50%). Letter will be returned.

Salute to Military Service Golf Program

Veterans Golf Group PictureLearn the game of golf in a fun and interactive 3-week training program led by Buffalo Run’s PGA professionals. Participants will receive basic training on the game of golf, covering everything
from the flat stick to the boom stick.

The mission of the Salute to Military Service program is to utilize golf as a rehabilitative tool to help veterans overcome adversities and improve their physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing.

Reserve a place of honor at Veterans Memorial Park

Commerce City’s Veterans Memorial Park offers custom etched pavers for purchase to permanently recognize military heroes. New pavers are placed annually before the city’s Memorial Day Parade; the city will also recognize the mentioned veterans during a special wreath-laying ceremony at the park.

Bricks are available starting at $100. The deadline for purchasing pavers is Mar. 31. Orders can be placed at either of the city’s recreation centers (Eagle Pointe, 6060 E. Parkway Dr., or Bison Ridge, 13905 E. 112th Ave.).
