Why are you running for council?
I am running for the Ward IV City Council seat to bring solutions to the real issues facing our community. Others have promised and have not delivered, but I will bring a fresh new perspective. I have no hidden personal agenda, and I do not support the interest of any particular industry. I offer solutions that bring growth and opportunity for residents. I have made a long term investment as a Reunion homeowner in Ward IV, and my goal is to prioritize important decisions that improve our community for everyone.
What do you see as the three biggest opportunities for Commerce City?
I see an opportunity for Commerce City to bring more small businesses and retail options into the Ward IV area. I see an opportunity to bring more public transportation options for residents looking for more affordable commuting options and to better support the workforce for retailers. I see an opportunity for the Metro District to partner with the City and Homebuilders to support more sustainable landscaping ideas to conserve water.
What do you see as the three biggest challenges facing the city?
As outlined in my platform (daviddiop.com), I identify the top three issues facing Commerce City as community residential concerns with the Metro District, lack of business infrastructure growth, and education options for our children. If you drive through the various neighborhoods of Commerce City Ward IV, you will see beautiful homes and well kept properties. That is a plus for many reasons. What you may not see are some of the more hidden challenges facing the home owners in the community, such as fees and assessments imposed by the Metro District and the fact that residents are spending more money on fuel to drive to other neighboring cities for goods and services. The reality is we do not have the business infrastructure to support the community, and this is creating additional burdens on the residents. I will support public safety measures that keep our children safe in school and that prioritize education.
What does a “Quality Community for a Lifetime” mean to you?
This means living in a community that everyone can be proud to call home. A place that supports housing options for generations, parents, adult children, and aging grandparents. A place where everyone feels safe and included and where every voice matters.
What is your favorite aspect of the city?
Commerce City is a unique modern suburban area but still has a rural community feel.
