Why are you running for council?
I have lived in Commerce City for 15 years working as a Class A Truck Driver and raising my family. Lack of investment and ongoing challenges like rising crime have only gotten worse, not better under the current leadership. I decided to run to put a resident’s hand on the wheel, not a politician. I am a hard worker, and I will bring my work ethic and honesty to find solutions that will help Ward III and our entire community.
What do you see as the three biggest opportunities for Commerce City?
Community: We care for and take pride in our community and our diverse population. These qualities are what make us great and give us our sense of identity.
Growth: A healthy city needs to continue to invest and grow or it won’t improve and prosper. I believe we can have a balanced approach to housing and development. Measured growth creates amenities and keeps our community affordable.
Location: Our city has a perfect location. We are close to DIA, downtown Denver, and our beautiful mountain range, that is what brings people to our area, the closeness to many employment hubs and access to major roadways.
What do you see as the three biggest challenges facing the city?
Commerce City is a great community, but it can and should be a lot better. Current leadership cannot work together to accomplish anything, and this has led to; one, lack of economic development and bringing in new entertainment amenities; second, rising crime rates; and third, bad traffic, poor roads, and infrastructure. Our families need more things to do but this city council is ineffective and has all but stopped business growth. I want to work with other city council members, city management and our community to make real change. I want business leaders to WANT to do business in Commerce City and not be driven away by infighting and a reputation for being difficult.
What does a “Quality Community for a Lifetime” mean to you?
Quality means different things to different people, and I respect that. For me and my family I want my community to be a place where my neighbors and I feel safe. Our taxes are low, our kids are getting a good education, we can afford a home and drive on good roads to go out to eat, watch a movie or bowl and buy things we need without driving to a different city to get it. A stable and equitable city where everyone can have a good quality of life and prosper.
What is your favorite aspect of the city?
We moved to Commerce City 15 years ago to raise our young family. We did so because the city offered diverse, attainable housing close to festivals, entertainment, and other activities we enjoy. It’s our time to attract these things closer to home and IN Commerce City not Denver or Brighton. It’s our time to provide an environment where our schools thrive. It’s our time to invest in our future. Support me and I promise to roll up my sleeves day one to get us back on the right track!
