Why are you running for council?

I'm running for council because I'm deeply committed to creating positive change for all of Commerce City. I understand the burden of high property taxes due to complex metro districts, and I believe in fair taxation that benefits homeowners and residents alike. I'm also dedicated to addressing the issues of pollution, crime, and the lack of access to essential services like grocery stores, dining options, entertainment, and more.

Moreover, I am eager to put SB152 on the ballot, giving residents the opportunity to have a say in their high-speed internet access. By following the example of cities like Longmont, I envision Commerce City becoming a pioneer in providing fiber gigabit internet service to all residents at an affordable cost. This not only boosts our local economy but also attracts professional businesses, creating new opportunities and growth for our community. Together, we can build a Commerce City that is connected, prosperous, and serves the best interests of all our residents.

What do you see as the three biggest opportunities for Commerce City?

Community-Driven Development: One of the most significant opportunities for Commerce City lies in the vast, undeveloped areas that serve as a blank canvas. We have the unique chance to engage residents in a collaborative planning process, ensuring that our city grows in alignment with their vision. By actively involving our diverse community in decision-making, we can create neighborhoods that reflect our shared values and aspirations.

Sustainable Growth: Commerce City's expansive landscapes offer a promising opportunity for sustainable development. By prioritizing environmentally conscious planning, we can preserve our natural resources, reduce pollution, and create green spaces that enhance our quality of life. This approach not only benefits current residents but also attracts new families and businesses seeking a forward-thinking community.

Economic Innovation: Our blank slate also presents an opportunity to foster economic innovation. By supporting local entrepreneurs, promoting small businesses, and attracting tech and professional companies, we can diversify our economy. Furthermore, by pursuing strategic partnerships and investments, we can turn Commerce City into a hub for innovation and job growth, ensuring that our residents have access to exciting career opportunities right here at home.

These opportunities underscore the potential for Commerce City residents to actively participate in shaping their community's future, promoting sustainability, and fostering economic prosperity for all.

What do you see as the three biggest challenges facing the city?

Water Quality and Safety: Another pressing concern is the state of our water quality and safety. We need proactive measures to ensure our water sources remain clean and safe for consumption. This includes rigorous monitoring, infrastructure investments, and collaboration with relevant agencies to safeguard the health and well-being of our residents.

Metro District Accountability: An issue that has been a challenge to Commerce City is the conflict of interest within developer-controlled metro districts. This conflict results in skyrocketing property taxes for residents, with little to no accountability. Addressing this challenge requires a transparent and equitable taxation system, where the interests of homeowners are prioritized over those of developers.

Government Action on Citizen Engagement: A vital challenge is ensuring that the voices of our citizens are heard and acted upon promptly. Residents deserve a responsive government that not only listens to their concerns but also acts swiftly to address them. By fostering an environment of open communication and efficient problem-solving, we can empower our community to be actively involved in shaping our city's future.

What does a “Quality Community for a Lifetime” mean to you?

Quality Community for a Lifetime" to me is a vision of Commerce City that encapsulates the essence of what Colorado has to offer. It's about embracing our state's great outdoors attitude, celebrating our rich and diverse local heritage, and cherishing the moments that make living here truly special.

My wife and I chose to make Commerce City our home because we saw it as a place where we could raise our family, surrounded by the natural beauty and vibrant culture that defines Colorado. To us, a quality community means having access to the breathtaking Rocky Mountains, enjoying outdoor adventures, and experiencing the warmth of a welcoming, diverse neighborhood.

It's about relishing the convenience of local amenities, savoring diverse dining options, and celebrating our unique traditions. A quality community is a place where families can thrive, where children can receive an excellent education, and where everyone, from young professionals to retirees, can find their own sense of belonging.

In essence, a "Quality Community for a Lifetime" means creating a Commerce City that embodies the very best of Colorado living, where residents can build a lifetime of memories and experiences while enjoying the unique offerings of our great state.

What is your favorite aspect of the city?

My favorite aspect of the city is its people and their unwavering commitment to making this a great community to live in. Commerce City residents are a remarkable blend of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences, all coming together with a shared passion for building a better future.

It's the dedication of our neighbors to address the challenges we face and the determination to create positive change that truly stands out. Whether it's organizing community events, advocating for local improvements, or simply being there for one another, our residents exemplify the spirit of unity and collective progress.

In Commerce City, we're not just neighbors; we're a close-knit family, working hand in hand to ensure that this city remains a wonderful place to call home. It's this strong sense of community and the extraordinary people within it that make me proud to be part of Commerce City.
