Local Sex Offender Ordinance

It is unlawful for any person who has been adjudicated as a sexually violent predator to establish a permanent or temporary residence within one thousand feet of any park, playground, school, ball field, licensed day care facility, recreation center, public swimming pool, or dedicated public recreation trail. It is unlawful for all other sexual offenders to establish a permanent or temporary residence within one thousand feet of any park, playground, school, ball field, or licensed child care centers. Sexual offenders who have NOT been classified as a Sexually Violent Predator may request an exemption to this ordinance. For more information, contact Trevor Barnes at tbarnes@c3gov.com

Online information on registered felony sex offenders in Colorado is available through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. A printed list is available at the Police Department Records window at the Commerce City Civic Center. Visit c3gov.com/Police for business hours.

To Register in Commerce City

The Commerce Police Department conducts in-person sex offender registrations every Thursday at the Commerce City Civic Center.

  • Registration is available by appointment only. Walk-ins are not accepted.
  • Appointments are available between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursdays only.

The publicly available state sex offender registry includes only those persons who have been convicted as adults of certain acts of felony unlawful sexual behavior since July 1, 1991, and who are in compliance with the sex offender registration laws. Those persons who were adjudicated as juveniles, as well as adults convicted of misdemeanor sex offenses, are not publicly available on the sex offender registry.
